The Fort Gordon Cyber District – Alliance for Cyber Education (ACE) team is proud to fund and host an Air Force Association (AFA) CyberPatriot Summer Camp this week at the Aiken Technical College (Aiken Tech) campus.
Camp attendees are spending the week learning the importance of cyber safety and the basics of cybersecurity. Students will conclude the week on Friday, July 22 with a graduation ceremony to be held at 2:30 p.m. on the Aiken Tech campus. BG(P) Paul Stanton, the Commander of Fort Gordon Cyber Center of Excellence, and Dr. Forest Mahan, President of Aiken Technical College, will present completion certificates during the ceremony.
The camp, one of two being held this year, is designed for middle and high school students who are just getting into cybersecurity or who have cybersecurity knowledge and want to learn more. Camps are hosted by approved organizations and institutions that register with the CyberPatriot Program Office. These organizations include, but are not limited, to AFA Chapters, schools, universities, CAP squadrons, companies in the industry, and Boys and Girls Clubs.
This is the first fully in-person camp the ACE team has hosted in the last two years. The ACE team is the current CyberPatriot Center of Excellence of the Year for the entire nation. Instructors from NSA Georgia and units across Fort Gordon are assisting with this effort to locally grow cyber talent to fill the vast shortage of cyber workers this region needs.

- This is the fifth year the Alliance for Fort Gordon’s Alliance for Cyber Education (ACE) Fort Gordon Cyber District’s team has hosted free CyberPatriot Summer Camps. Held during the summer months, Air Force Association (AFA) CyberCamps emphasize fun, hands-on learning of cybersecurity principles that are relevant and applicable to everyday life. Students learn the importance of cyber safety and how to protect their personal devices and information from outside threats. Standard AFA CyberCamps teaches beginner students the basics of cybersecurity.
- This is the first year the Alliance team is hosting camps in two different states.
- At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, which places teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online competition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services. The top teams in the nation earn all-expenses-paid trips to Maryland for the national finals competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.
