Thousands of Fort Gordon Soldiers head home for the holidays

FORT GORDON, Ga. – Media are invited to join Cyber Center of Excellence leadership Thursday, Dec. 18th, as they prepare approximately 4,000 Soldiers to head home for the holidays. Training Soldiers and permanent staff begin a holiday block leave period, from Friday, Dec. 19th to Monday, Jan. 5th.

Family and friends will pick up approximately 1,200 Soldiers from the post and close to 2,500 soldiers will depart by bus for the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the Augusta Regional Airport starting at midnight, Thursday, Dec. 18th and continuing throughout the day.

Cyber Center of Excellence leaders, drill sergeants and training Soldiers are available for interviews starting at 5 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 18th.  Media will stage at the 551st Signal Battalion on Fort Gordon where Soldiers are awaiting transportation to their respective airports and are able to move throughout the barracks for B-roll and live updates.

Media interested in participating should RSVP lesli.j.ellis-wouters.civ@army.mil  by noon Thursday, December 18.  Please include times for live shots so interviews can be arranged at appropriate times. Media will depart Fort Gordon’s Gate 6 at 4:30 a.m. to be positioned at the battalion by 5 a.m.
